What is a hanging car installation?
A hanging car installation is a full or partial car body suspended from the ceiling as a sculpture. Shamil Design Lab builds lightweight fiberglass car bodies finished in automotive paint, then rigs them at the angle that makes the car read as if it is mid-corner or mid-jump.
Is it a real car?
The pieces are hand-built fiberglass bodies, not stripped road cars. That is deliberate: a moulded shell weighs a fraction of a real vehicle, which is what makes ceiling suspension safe in a showroom, loft or retail space.
How is it fixed to the ceiling?
The piece hangs from steel cable or rod anchored into structural ceiling points. We supply the rigging specification and hanging weight with the quote so your structural engineer or contractor can sign off the fixings before the piece arrives.
Where do suspended car installations work best?
Car showrooms and dealerships, brand retail spaces, double-height lofts, garages with mezzanines, restaurants and private collector galleries — anywhere with the ceiling height and the sightline to walk underneath it.
